BHLogin is a simple PHP/MySQL Login Script. It includes a administrator page and provides an easy way to add authentication to any PHP site.

The Ben Hovinga web site is my personal web site. I use it for many thing like displaying all of my projects I have done. I also use it to link my online life here like twitter and facebook. Right now I am still working on it, but I’m almost done. And incase you did not notice, you are currently at the Ben Hovinga web site.

Dolphin Duct Cleaning was my very first client, excluding my father (see Phil’s Contracting). I currently don’t work on the web site anymore but the content and design are still the same as before. My friend used to work for the company and told his boss about me. His boss called me up and asked what I would charge. Back then I didn’t know how much I should have charged so I said only $10 a month and you could pay it yearly. It turns out that’s cheap. But you get for what you pay for. I hosted it on my home server that I made from scrap parts of dead computers. Because of our internet connection being on a dynamic IP system the web sites would go down every time the IP changed. They usually stayed down for 10 minutes. He did not like that at all so he waited until the year was over and told me he planed to move to a different server. That was OK, I made a decent looking web site and learned from my mistakes. He still uses the template and content that I setup because he is satisfied with what he has. When making it I tried to make the web site basically run itself.

The HEX Color Getter is a program that I made in auto hot keys that allows programmers or web site developers to figure out what the colour is of the current pixel that the mouse is over. To use it just start the program, you will see a little H with a green background in your task bar. When you want to figure out what the colour is of a specific pixel on your computer screen (works on multi monitor setups) press Ctrl + Alt + Z. You will see a dialog box pop up and once you close the box it is automatically sent to the computers clipboard. Now just paste it into your program. Note that you may need to append a # or 0x in front of it as its just the hex numbers on its own. This program includes both the source and a compiled version. The program licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 Canada License.

I made this just before new year. This is a great program for counting down to the new year. To use, make sure your computer clock is accurate or close to it. Most computers now synchronize with various servers to insure accuracy. Open the webpage and put your browser in full screen (pressing F11 or View-> Full screen). Select the biggest font size that your monitor size will handle (font controls are in the top left corner, they are slightly dark). Start the countdown. I used it for new years on my laptop outside, just make sure that the champaign doesn’t get all over your computer like it did mine.

This is my fathers website. He wanted to start a website for his company Phil’s Contracting. Because he knew quite a bit about computers and websites he made his own website. It didn’t look that good and it was only compatable with internet explorer. When I told him that his website sucked he told me to make one. So I did. The current website that you see right now is version 3. The second one I made, I used Joomla CMS for it but Joomla is ment for dynamic content and his website contains a lot of static content. I then created version 3 of his website. It is all static content with a few dynamic parts, like the photo gallery. It dosn’t use any databases which make it load much faster and now it looks a lot cleaner with my custom template.
